Injury brought me back to square one
I started working out early this year to lose a few kgs (I am already in a healthy weight range). I also set many non scale goals and managed to achieve all of them before a nasty back injury.
I am talking about multiple slipped disks. Weeks of being stuck in bed and months of physio. I still have a lot of stiffness and some pain but I'm slowly getting back to exercise.
All throughout I tried to maintain activity. Simple walks and stretches. The doctors told me I would get better in 2 months. I held on. Then 4 months. I still held on. Now it's been 6 months and I am back to the same size and weight as I was before and I am not sure how long I can hold on.
I cannot lift anymore because it still hurts my back. I can only do some yoga and Pilates.
It's extremely frustrating to say the least. All my accomplishments are gone. My fitness has suffered and now my mental health is suffering because this looks never ending.
I probably got this injury because I over exerted myself but it still sucks to go from very active to barely managing an hour of yoga without pain for the rest of the day.
Has anyone managed to get over injuries and go back to normal? How did you manage it? How did you deal with not being able to lift? How did you deal with the mental aspect of all this?
I am trying to enjoy other light exercises but it's not the same as running and light weights but I also need to accept the current limitations of my body. Just needed to share this and feel like I am not the only one struggling with this.
