Don't be so afraid of beer...
Disclaimer: if you can lose weight without the occasional alcohol fix, it's probably gonna be a lot easer. For me, however, I am young and living in a city. All my friends like a good night out, and I'm not willing to give up my social life for a few pounds here and there. I only like to do this ~1x per week max, more than that I will feel super crappy, probably because I'm wasting my limited calories on alcohol that has very little nutritional value.
So the point of this post is that for the last few months, I've been on a mission to get drunk for as few calories as possible. Basically - since shots are tough for me - that drink was some ~100 cal shot + club soda/diet soda.
I would save room for 4-6 drinks. BUT the issue with these drinks is - a) they go down very quickly, making it super easy to order too many once inhibitions start going down. And b) they are not filling at all! Actually they can give me that queasy feeling that can seemingly only be cured by some taco bell. Oftentimes I would end the night starving, and go on a drunken binge, eating back every calorie I cut throughout the week.
With beer, It takes longer to drink, and it's very filling! After 2 or 3 beers, my stomach feels very bloated and I have little desire for that greasy food. Plus, seeing as I have to cut back on calories throughout the day to save room, I can get a good buzz going on 2 beers. And by the time I've had 3, I'm a good drunk, but I'm so sick of beer that it's hard to go over on my limit for the night.
Anyway - I guess this is a really important realization for me and I wanted to share! It is soo so tough to keep a healthy social life while losing weight and honestly that has possibly been the hardest part for me. So I hope this can help some people out who are similarly trying to find that balance.
