My Lesson: Don't eat if you aren't hungry
I've never considered myself a binge eater, nor that I ever ate insanely. I mean I'm fat but I never sat around and ate baby flavored donuts while guzzling MT Dew. But listening to a couple of podcasts have given me a couple of revelations. I eat when i'm not hungry. Not like "I have nothing to do this afternoon so lets demolish a pizza" instead it's more insidious.
- I eat because it's lunch time and the cafeteria is only open until 1, and if I don't go now there won't be food.
- i eat because it's morning and aren't you supposed to want breakfast?
- I eat because it's date night and my partner wants sushi, I can't just sit across from him and not eat.
- I eat because it's a celebration and don't you want to toast the groups accomplishments with a beer or appetizer?
- I eat because I'm on Weight Watchers and still have points left, and shouldn't I be spending them? (Could be calories if you are CI/CO)
- I eat because I packed a lunch and it sucks to waste food.
- I eat because it's routine
- I eat because it's entertainment
- I eat for socialization.
I'm still eating in my points (or calorie allotment) when I'm doing it but I'm still eating when I'm not hungry and over eating. And the realization is, it has to stop. Date night can change. I can miss the open hours of the cafeteria, I can leave points/calories on the table and not worry about them being gone. I can skip eating if I am not hungry and am just not feeling it.
I don't need one meal a day, 3 meals a day or 6. I just need to eat when I am actually hungry and eat until satiated not stuffed.
