I've been a lurker for years but I just hit 50lbs and I need to tell someone!
I (M/23/6'2) had always been a heavy drinking, binge eating, over-weight guy, but when I got broken up with in January, I knew that I would turn into an alcoholic mess if I didn't find something else to focus on. I had to choose between drinking and running, and I'm so happy that I chose the latter.
When I stepped on the scale on Christmas Morning 2018, I clocked in at 265, by far the heaviest I'd ever been. When my girlfriend of almost 3 years left me, the one thing that truly helped me was to get outside and run. At the start, I couldn't run a mile without stopping, and this past weekend I did 8 miles in about 70 minutes no stops! My goal for 2020 is to run my first marathon.
I decided that to get the most out of my running, it would be great to lose all the cellulite that had accumulated over the years. I cut out processed foods, quit drinking beer, replaced dinner with massive green smoothies 5 days a week, intermittently fasted for 16 hours a day (every day), and started to run at least 4-5 days a week. No more turkey clubs and french fries for lunch, Sweetgreen salads have been the best fast-breaking tool for me.
It has been an extremely difficult journey, and one that is far from over, but I can't believe that I did it. I moved to a new city for this girl and for school, and the last thing I imagined happening if I ever got dumped was to lose 50lbs.
Thank you r/loseit and r/intermittentfasting for all the motivation and advice over the last 4 months, if I can do it, ANYONE can!
