(M, CW 218, GW 200) I dread shopping for clothes, and I never leave feeling good about myself

Today I needed to buy some new shorts for work today. Over the past year I've put on about 20lbs, and a lot of my clothing doesn't fit right anymore. I already have a stack of clothes that I want to fit back into, and now that pile is growing in size.

I walked into Macy's today wearing a pair that were a size 38. They are a little big honestly, but very comfortable.I grabbed a pair that was a size 40 and tried them on. They fit fine, but I was worried about shrinkage. I couldn't find the same pair in a 42, so I tried a different brand. I grabbed a 42 from another brand and it was too small. Then I tried a 40 from third brand and I decided they were acceptable enough because I just wanted to leave. I felt confused, angry, but mostly sad and very self conscious.

I never like shopping for clothes. I always feel like my body is the wrong size, and today's experience didn't help. My weight has fluctuated my entire life, and here I am again needing to buy bigger clothing because my current clothes don't fit anymore.

Does anyone else have experiences like this?
