How accurate is MyFitnesspal?

So I’ve recently begun trying to lose weight, and I thought tracking, and monitoring my calories is needed. So I went with this app, set everything up, but came away a bit confused in the end. I’m 6’3, 290 and 16, who’s currently doing “very little activity” as I’m planning to sign up for a gym after I’ve got through the start of this, and when I’ve proven I’m committed enough to add that expense. But it’s telling me to eat 2040 calories to lose 2Lbs per week? That’s not correct, right?

Also upon using a TDEE calculator, my maintenance calorie amount is 2944. So does this mean eating only the 2040, would put me into a deficit below maintenance, meaning weight loss?
