Anyone here who gained weight from taking anti-depressants?

I started taking an antidepressant (citalopram) a few years back when I had a really bad panic attack. I was already gaining weight from emotional eating, but the meds accelerated the weight gain and I basically packed on about 30kg (65lbs) in about a year. Even though I was feeling better, the weight gain made me depressed again.

I stopped taking the meds in 2020 and lost a few pounds, but am still carrying quite a lot of the weight. I’ve lost about 30lbs since January 2022 and am trying to take a slower approach to weight loss.

I was diagnosed with ADHD and started taking meds to help manage the symptoms, but my doctor wants me to reconsider taking antidepressants again. I initially said no, and tbh I’ve had more success managing my emotions and eating after my ADHD diagnosis.

But I’ve been struggling a lot with social anxiety, and do remember being more social/confident when I was taking citalopram.

Have any of you gained weight because of meds? Was it worth it?
