Water retention - sneaky hobbitses

So last weekend I indulged. I was visiting friends and ate and drank whatever I wanted.

I didn’t feel bad about it until I got on the scales Monday morning to find I’d gained 2.1kg in a little over a week. This was especially crushing because (prior to that weigh in) I was only 0.4g from my goal weight.

This past week I’ve eaten normally, I haven’t been able to exercise much due to an injury. So I wasn’t expecting much of a loss.

Hopped on the scales this morning to find I’m 1.9kg down. Meaning I’m only 0.2g above my pre-indulgent weekend weight. My period never causes this much weight gain/loss, maybe 1kg max. So I did a little reading on water retention, and found that heat can cause significant water retention (makes sense really).

My mindset on Monday was “you disgusting thing, how did you let your self eat/drink into a 2kg weight gain” whereas in reality, to gain that much in a weekend I’d have been having to consume a ridiculous amount. While I’m not putting all of my 2.1kg weight gain down to the heatwave we had (UK) last week, it certainly would account for some of it.

This is a reminder to be kind to yourself, because sometimes the numbers are tricksy and false (ish).
